Dallas Mavericks: 20-1

Here is a scary thought, via Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com:”You do not get any better than Rick Carlisle crime, but Carlisle’s offense got better this offseason.”
Drink that you in.
Last year, Carlisle’s Mavs tied for second in the league with an offensive rating of 109, decimal points behind the NBA-best Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA.com. While the loss of genius sniper and continuous facilitator Jose Calderon will sting, Dallas brought to soften the blow. And a few possessions can be absorbed by Monta Ellis as well, which will not be a terrible thing for the Mavs’ attack.
The boost comes in Chandler Parsons, who’ll play small forward to consume nearly all the wing minutes Shawn Marion and Vince Carter shared. Tyson Chandler mans the middle of what should be an improved defense.
What Dallas has is delicate. It’s dependent on the health and continuing potency of Dirk Nowitzki, about whom an offense that is elite may nevertheless be built. That’s a remarkable thing to say about a player, but Nowitzki is, himself impressive.
Provided that he’s ready to stand erect, he’ll be a defense-shredder in the place. And the rest of the Mavs will play off him as the strings are pulled by Carlisle from the bench.
Doubt this set of vets in your own risk.
