League of Legends Worlds Group Stage Day One Round-Up

The League of Legends World Championship is here. For the Cup of the Summoner, 16 of the worlds finest teams have started their struggle Following a gruelling week of play-ins.
Teams Group A will need to wait until tomorrow to kick off their Worlds campaign but Groups B, C and D also have experienced an eventful day. By Faker return to Worlds to J Team, heres a round-up of all the actions from day 1 of their Worlds Group Stage.
SKT made their return in the first match of the group stage with a clinical victory over Fnatic to Worlds. This was an interesting match from the outset as Teddy made a decision to play with Kayle along with Hylissangs Garen and Yuumi – leaving Faker on the Tristana which proved to be powerful as the laner that is Korean ended up with a 9/0 KDA.
The LCK top seed did not hold back as they secured every dragon of the game and also ripped themselves 21 kills.
However, Fnatics support Hylissang confesses that while he did not think his negative went to lose, he is happy to acquire the mistakes out of the way early on.
He said:I have mixed feelings. We had different expectations although I feel as though we did fine. It feels much better because I do not think we played well, that we lost – we all left a lot of mistakes. I am just glad that we made these errors early in the tournament because weve got time.
I think SKT played well but I think they played too slow. Even though we lost, I took much more fights than they ever did and feel as though when we had been the enemy group wed have snowballed the game faster. We werent able to capitalise on them and punish them although they made errors too.
I expect people to go far in the championship but I cant really say how far. To begin with, we need to get out of Groups and should we get from this category it says a lot in my opinion
Group C has been known as thegroup of death however RNG are decided to get out of it alive after they obliterated Clutch Gambling using a gold lead.
When Damonte baited Xiahou to his jungle to secure First Blood with the assistance of the Nocturne of Lira, clutch made a good start. However, their luck more or less ended there since RNG secured three kills that were fast to take the lead.
Uzi had the KDA on Xayah, the Renekton of Langx was unstoppable and Mings Blitzcrank was a choice that is convenient as he picked Cody Sun.
LMSs ahq gave Invictus Gaming a run for their money but they were able to conquer the defending champions.
Ahqs ADC Wako managed to best his counterpart JackeyLove on but IG didnt give their opponents the chance to snowball. Their game turned around with some skirmishes and team fights despite losing the turret along with the Rift Herald to ahq.
Most notably, the LPL third seed forced a struggle across Baron, turned out to their competitions and was able to kill four to finally finish the match in 29 minutes which was the quickest game of their afternoon.
Once Team Liquid took down the Damwon Gambling of Korea the upset of the afternoon came in the game. Large expectations were set following their clean sweep at play-ins and beating at scrims for Damwon despite being the seed from Korea.
Following Impact murdered Nuguri and Doublelift bagged himself a quadra kill Team Id pulled off an impressive win. Along with their Baron buff of this game, the North American side managed to seal a significant victory over Damwon and CoreJJ considers that it wasnt that far of surprise.
He explained:I am really thrilled that we won against a group that I consider a strong team but we believed we would win because we are the best seed from NA and they are the next seed from LCK.
North America has been regarded as a weaker region in the Worlds stage – something CoreJJ yells off.
He explained:I trust people keep flaming us until the end because it feels even better to win if they dont expect you to win.
J Teams success over FunPlus Phoenix was by far the days biggest upset. Even the LMS side left their Worlds introduction when they faced LPLs number one seed revealed that there had been a lot that they had to improve .
Despite taking practically every one the dragons in the game and getting blood, FPX appeared weaker in team fights along with J Team managed to pick off members of the Chinese side over and over again.
The FoFo of J Team admits that the victory came as a surprise and can be convinced that his team can beat on Splyce and GAM when they are able to maintain their form.
He said:We all think its really amazing that we beat LPLs first seed and we are really happy about it. We didnt hope to beat them we gave it our all and we all just wanted to enjoy our time.
I havent actually thought about if we will get out of groups or not – I want is for our team to do to the maximum of our abilities. If we are in good form then I believe we can beat the rest of the teams in our group but if were not, we probably wont have the ability to win some of those matches.
Splyce proved themselves to be a contender in Group B as they beat GAM Esports in the days previous match.
Humanoid, Splyces 19-year-old laner that is mid was one of those standout players of this match. Levi managed to assassinated Humanoid with his Khazix but it did not stop Splyce from making EU their first win of the tournament and procuring Baron.
